GPS Intelligent Buoy Subsea Tracking System (ACSA)

The GPS Intelligent Buoy (GIB) concept can essentially be thought of as an inverted long-baseline system, and offers a unique alternative to subsea positioning, with many advantages over existing tracking systems.

The system is also extremely quick and easy to deploy (less than two hours!), and the array is self-calibrating due to the utilisation of GPS receivers, and therefore provides customers with a significant operational cost saving. No vessel mounting poles or other hardware is needed with this system, which makes it suitable for mobilisation from any vessel of opportunity.

Metric X,Y tracking accuracies can be achieved and sub-metric in the vertical plane. The GIB can also be used to relocate pingers and beacons on the seabed extremely quickly and accurately. The system has many applications including ROV/Diver tracking, Submarine rescue and black box relocation.

Programmable Sonar Altimeter PSA-916 (Teledyne Benthos)

The PSA-916 is a small low cost altimeter designed primarily for ROV/Instrument altitude measurement. However, it can also be used for obstacle avoidance and other distance measurements. The PSA-916 provides a high resolution altitude/range output through an digital serial port. This particular model has a 14 degree beam width with a 100m range.

SMART Releases (Teledyne Benthos)

Smart Modem Acoustic Release Technology (SMART) is a unique concept from Teledyne Benthos that combines the proven technology of an underwater acoustic release with the reliable undersea communications functionality of an acoustic modem.

Currently three products are offered:

The SR-50 is a shallow water unit, based on the 867-A release platform, and rated to 300m.

The SM-75 is a modem, a release, and a flotation device, all in one. This is based on a glass instrument housing, with a burnwire release mechanism, offering a very versatile package.

The SR-100 is a deep water unit, based on the 865-A release, and rated to 6,000m. Details on the SR-100 can be downloaded below.

Teledyne Benthos' recently upgraded range of Acoustic Modems are the ideal solution to wireless subsea communications. Capable of data rates as high as 15 kbps, with very low error rates, they are reliable and secure.

Teledyne Benthos acoustic modems have already proved to be extremely versatile, in the field of remote data collection, and can be easily integrated into subsea instrumentation packages. They have been used in many diverse environments and for many different tasks, such as Tsunami early warning stations, real time cable trenching plough stability measurements and real time acquisition of bending stresses from subsea pipelines.

The modems offer a range of different configurations, depending on the customers requirement, such as a remote transducer head, which makes the acoustic modem easier to integrate into the subsea package.
